Benefits for all involved

The People’s Pension is sponsoring the Pension Management Institute’s (PMI) 2021 Mentoring and Development Programme for the second year running. The programme gives us the opportunity to help individuals gain valuable business skills that’ll support their learning journeys. We see this as a really practical way for us to give back to the pensions industry, with people being paired with industry specialists who’ll share their knowledge and expertise.

A selection of mentees and mentors take part in the 12-month programme – and the benefits are two-fold. Mentees have regular and confidential catch-ups with an experienced industry professional to:

  • talk about their career goals and personal development
  • discuss their progress on the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) programme
  • learn new skills
  • enhance their pensions knowledge.

They’ll then gain a formal certificate on completion of the course.

Growing in numbers

In 2020, 40 participants successfully completed the programme and became affiliate ILM members. In fact, many mentees and mentors found the experience so rewarding, that they’ve continued to stay in touch with each other.

Looking ahead to 2021, I’m thrilled that engagement and participation in the programme has grown so quickly – with double the number of mentees signing up this year. More of our own people are also getting involved and we now have 8 mentees and 4 mentors taking part. I’m signed up as a mentor this year and I’m excited to see how everyone embarking on their journey gets on – so do stay tuned for more updates!
