How long will your pension need to last?

Want a comfortable retirement? If you’ve been saving into a pension, you’ve already set out in the right direction. But if you want to really take control of your pension, checking how many years you might be in retirement for is a great place to start.

Life expectancy calculator

Our life expectancy calculator is here to give you an idea of how long you’re likely to live for after you reach retirement age.

So it’s a quick and easy way to work out your expected retirement years and check how long your money will need to last.

This is a calculation tool developed by The People's Pension. This calculator is for guidance and has been designed to help with your retirement planning by generating an estimate of your life expectancy.

information

This calculator was created when we were B&CE, before we changed our name to People’s Partnership in November 2022.

People’s Partnership is now the data controller for the group and registered details can be found in the Privacy notice.

What is this calculation based on?

Our life expectancy calculator gives you an estimate of how long you’re likely to live for, based on your current age, gender and location.

So to do this, it looks at the average life span for people of your age, your gender and who live in the same area as you – and pulls these averages together to work our your own estimated life expectancy.

The average life span statistics that our calculator uses come from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) and National Records of Scotland (NRS).

There are lots of things that can affect life expectancy such as lifestyle choices, health, occupation and family history. So your individual life expectancy might be very different.
